It was the custom in her family that all the girls got beauty and etiquette lessons rather than learning the basics from mothers, friends or magazine articles. I hated it, at the time. But now that I'm older, and hopefully wiser, I look back on the time fondly. My favorite class was Busting Beauty Mistakes. The following are the top seven biggest beauty mistakes women make today and what to do to correct them. 1. Scrubbing your face with harsh cleansers. My mom caught me using an Apricot Facial scrub on my acne prone skin when I was a teen and quickly banished the product from the house. Here's why: Using abrasive face cleansers strips the face of essential moisture and exacerbates oily skin. If heavy cleansing is required (for example to remove heavy makeup) use a makeup remover before you wash your face. Oily skin types should stick with an oil-free and alcohol-free cleanser. 2. Not wearing a moisturizer with SPF during the day. I am gloriously afflicted with Nicole Kidman-type fair skin. So for any time spent outdoors, even if I'm travelling in the car, I need to be wearing sunscreen. My tan-prone friends think that all the sunscreen I slather on my skin is a waste of money. Just because youre not sun-bathing doesnt mean the suns damaging rays arent affecting your skin. Use SPF 15 everyday. Most moisturizers come with added SPF protection so it should be easy to incorporate this tip into your beauty routine. If you are exposed to the sun frequently, bump it up to SPF 30 and wear a hat. 3. Wearing the wrong foundation. You foundation should match your skin tone exactly. If your skin tone changes throughout the year, make sure you change your foundation too. If you love that sun-kissed look, dust a bronzer on top. You'll get better results than using a foundation that's a shade darker than your natural color. 4. Wearing only one makeup product. A polished look is all about balance. So if you're guilty of only wearing eyeliner and nothing else, add a little lip color to balance it out. Not sure what looks best, pick up any magazine and look closely at the women and try to follow what the makeup artist has done. 5. At-home hair color. The products on the market today allow you to inexpensively cover up a few grays or touch up your roots, from the comfort of your home. If you're planning a more drastic makeover (going from brunette to blond), head to the salon. You can always maintain the color yourself at home once changed but drastic changes require a professional. 6. Ignoring your brows. Untamed or overgrown eyebrows can mean the difference between looking polished and looking like our gorilla ancestors. For first-timers, visit a waxer or threader who can clean up and shape your brows. Pluck stray hairs yourself in between treatments with a good set of tweezers. 7. Neglecting your nails. Like it or not, your nails get noticed. Maybe regular manicures aren't to your liking. At minimum, you should apply a coat of clear polish, which will protect nails and give them a healthy shine. With these tips, you'll be able to maximizing your features and assets, but dont forget its your own uniqueness and what's on the inside that makes you beautiful, not what you put on your skin. Even though they are not always biblically sound or historically accurate, cant we glean some good things from them anyway? Answer I once heard a man describe the Hollywood crowd as a bunch of crooks and robbers with the morality of a pack of jackals. I concur with this assessment in general, so it is hard for me to conceive of anything redemptive coming from a Hollywood interpretation of one of the gravest and most important teaching of the scripture. One of the ways the arch- deceiver has succeeded in luring even the most cautious and circumspect of people, is to mix just enough truth in with his lies to subtly seduce the hearer. It is a sort of garnishment or embellishment that makes the most poisonous plate look palatable after all. The seriousness of billions of people meeting their doom, earthquakes leveling every city on the planet and the destruction of every major institution of man should hardly he trusted to the Hollywood crowd. It is even harder to address some of the well meaning Christian authors who have introduced some very popular fiction about the second coming. Books like, Left Behind may be very entertaining but the bottom line is still that they are after all, only fiction. Over thirty years past I made a statement in some of my messages that didnt seem well received or even believed. I repeat it now with an ever increasing frequency, but now I find more acceptances for what I am saying. Americans who have their eyes wide open and their hearts tuned by God are now concurring with me when I say that, We have come to the place where entertainment is so important to us that we are losing sight of where fantasy ends and real life begins. When the comedic movie mogul Charlie Chaplin 1889- 1977, was at the peak of his career, a Chaplin look-alike craze was sweeping the world. In America, Europe and South America tens of thousands of people dressed in the garb of the famous actor and imitated his well known walk and his extravagant antics. It is a well known fact that many times Chaplin entered his own look-alike contests. He never won any of them, and it is said that many times he couldnt even make the finals. Our ability to see the difference between the look alike and the real thing is quite ineffective as this story shows. Why would anyone trust our skills to differentiate between the real and the unreal concerning something as important as the second coming of our Lord Jesus Christ? When the events start to unfold at a pace that no one can imagine there will he no time to debate which of the portents that are unfolding came from the Bible, and which came from the Hollywood version of things. That would only leave people more confused, more vulnerable and in the end, more dead. If you want the truth, doesnt it make sense to go to the source of truth? Hollywood even at its best has never been heralded as a source of truth. God is always the best source to find Gods will and plan. Neuroscience in August 2005: Lead researcher Jon-Kar Zubieta said: Endorphins (the bodys opiates),
are released in pain-related areas of the brain when we expect drugs
to relieve our pain. The operative word is expect because the emotion of positive-expectation causes physical changes in mind-and-body. Some might argue that expecting is a cognitive (thinking) behavior, not an
emotional one. Maybe its both, but PET(Positron Emission Tomography)
scans, produce proof-positive that a placebo Latin for I shall
please, changes the brain. Its as real as a New Orleans Heart Attack after seeing your home and source of livelihood destroyed. A placebo demonstration is required by the U.S. government to test the effectiveness of new drugs proposed to the Federal Drug Administration. Manufactures must prove their new drug produces more cures than a phony-baloney with no active ingredients say a saline-solution injection with no drugs in it. The Placebo can account for a minimum of thirty (30%) of all cures. Does that mean we cure ourselves? You have heard the expression the placebo-effect its in the dictionary and

of brain structures from patients who were give placebos - and not real drugs.
The experiment involved the injection into the jaws of the volunteers (a harmless procedure), of either a legitimate pain-killer or the powerless placebo. You dont have to remember its called the mu opioid receptors of the brain,
it means that the brain produces its own pain-killers strangely similar to
opium, and is received and used to reduce or eliminate pain by the mind-and-body. Mu - is the twelfth-letter of the Greek alphabet. When the patients were told they would receive painkillers just the mental expectation without the active drug ingredients as part of the experiment
their brains began to release Endorphins a natural copycat of manufactured morphine. And what happened? Right the placebo caused the pain to vanish as if the volunteers had received the active drugs. Its All in The Mind? Do we all have the same level of expectation about life health success? How do you even measure a mental construct like expectation? Heres what the University of Michigan scientists concluded: the power of the placebo was in-sync with the degree of each patients level
of belief in the power of the alleged drug. Huh? The stronger your belief in the effectiveness of the injection, pill or even
surgery they better your results. The better relationship you have with the doctor trust her/him the better odds
you recover and live - verses Most of us laughed at the Power-of-Positive-Thinking and considered ourselves
intelligent because we didnt fool ourselves. Does saying-so make-it-so? The words we use habitually are cues to how our brain thinks about success
and failure. The Placebo-Effect proves that how we talk, and what we expect
and trust to happen has a demonstrable cause-and-effect response on how our brain works. Nocebo Means I Will Harm You! From Latin we get placebo, and its sister-state - nocebo, which indicates that expectations of rejection, failure, and loss are the basis of self-sabotage. The negative words, gestures and facial expressions we use cause our brain to
lead us down the path to destruction. Is it all in your head, and persistence-and-
determination dont count? Life is action not thinking about doing. Its not who you are deep inside it is what you do. Our brain is affected by the words we use,
and by non-verbal body-language that reveals how we feel about things, people
and situations. Success is all about thinking, feeling and doing. Heres an analogy - the brain is our hardware, while our mind is the software and sets the goals. What we must remember is that our brain is listening to our words, and awaiting its marching-orders, just as your fingers on the computer point-and-click your commands. How you expect-to-be-treated causes people to modify their
behaviors. What results you expect to obtain affects the amount of effort your mind-and-body produce. Give-it-a-thought and implement a success-orientation. Endwords It is time to change our attitude about the power of expectation, and how our

Job Search Lessons from the 2006 Super Bowl

By Jeff Altman The Super Bowl is a game but, like sports in general, it offers useful life lessons that we can take with us . . . if we only look below the surface. As I watched the game, I saw a number of things. How many did you see? 1. As I pointed out last year, winning is a team effort. That was never more obvious than this year when the Steeler offense was going no where for most of the first half and the SeaHawk offense was moving the ball almost at will. All of the focus prior to the game was on the offenses and, in particular, the match up between the quarterbacks. But Pittsburghs Roethlisberger started horribly, piutting pressure on the defense. Seattle moved the ball against the defense but could not seal the deal with points as John Madden said diuring the game. In his post-game comments, Coach Cowher spoke about the team effort that went into winning, in particular the coaches who put in an enormous effort all season long to adapt to the chages that kept occuring all season long. Who are your coaches or are you trying to do everything by yourself? Champions take coaching from the staff who are able to look at their performance and offer good advice that the pro adapts to. Wouldnt that be helpful in your career planning? 2. Excitement is a great motivator; fear isnt. Pittsburgh came out jumpy and unsettled. Penalties and poor execution on offense and on the defensive side of the ball almost put them in a big hole. Fortunately for them (but unfortunately for Seattle), each time Seattle moved the ball, the Steeler defense would hold. Pittsburgh scored right before the half making the score 7-3. Seattle had dominated the play through most of the half but was trailing. When you interview, it is OK to be excited but arriving fearfully can cause you to make mistakes that can cost you the job youre well qualified to perform. You dont execute well on the interview and you go home to explain what happened. Its a horrible feeling. 3. Critical mistakes will keep you from winning. Seattle arrived as a team who had not turned the ball over for several weeks and left as a team that dropped passes, threw a critical interception, fmbled at a critical juncture, committed costly penalties that cost them 14 points (or enough to win). 4. Try not to be predictable. The team that runs the same plays over and over again will be defeated. Pittsburgh buried Seattle with an end reverse becoming an option pass touchdown to Hines Ward. In their playbook all season, they only ran the play once all year. 5. Planning for next year started 72 hours after the teams left the field. That should be true oof how you start planning for your next career move. As someone once said, the person who gets ahead isnt always the smartest and doesnt always work the hardest . . . although those are great qualities to have.
